Creating a Tier A compliant warehouse

 


India's warehousing and logistics environment has evolved over the years and one of the most common ways to achieve international standards is to build and operate “A-level” warehouses. Vineet Vaibhav, chief development officer, Welspun One, explains the "what, why and how" of Tier A warehouses. Although "Grade-A" is a term, there is no standard definition that can clearly divide warehouses into different categories such as A, B or C. In fact, A Grade A warehouse is a space that facilitates efficient installation work for any business. Class A warehouses lead to the lowest total cost (TOC) for development.

Many factors are responsible for shifting demand from B-level and C-level warehouses to A-level spaces. But more than anything else, it is the scale and complexity that makes it necessary for a Tier A warehouse. So that means that if there is no scale, the minimum is great and 100K SF, and it is not complicated, which includes the supply chain. Processes such as automation, fixed packaging, packaging and others, are not necessary for Grade A warehouses. 

But for any large or even emerging business, scale is inevitable and often a goal for many. Therefore, it is necessary for them to switch to using A grade Compliant warehouse in Noida. All of this process and assessment is based on need and assumes that the main occupants of Tier A warehouses will be all businesses in e-commerce, retail, 3PL, FMCG/ FMCD and pharmaceutical products, in particular. Once the identification of potential customers is complete, understanding their role is essential to truly arrive at a broad definition of Class A warehouse and what would be the right Class A warehouse designed to meet their business needs. In most cases, the actual engineering plan is designed for Class A warehouses.


• With a minimum eave height of 11m,

• The indoor aspect of a class A compound will be between 1:1.5 and 1:3.

 • The number of stations in such a park is 1 in 10,000 SF in pad or less.

• FM2 level warehouse floor with minimum floor load (UDL) of 5T/SQM.

• Seat length of at least 25.5 m in compact

• The Parking Unit must support at least 40 feet of trailer space and all driveways within the building must allow unobstructed traffic. The number of lanes should be two to four, depending on the size of the warehouse.

• Facilities such as fire alarm systems, CCTV, roof coverings, lighting, security systems and other essentials should be planned well in advance to ensure efficient operation. • In addition to supporting features, a well-functioning class A park should have a sufficient number of entrances / exits and parking spaces based on a thorough analysis of the park's traffic, such as even a minute's delay can have a direct business impact.
